How to make the most of our scented candles

Having luxury scented candles around your home creates a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere – but to make sure your candles keep their fragrance (and their looks) for longer, follow these simple tips.

  • Trim the wick to a couple of millimetres – it makes your candle last longer, prevents black smoke and makes sure the glass isn’t overheating.
  • Burn your candle for 2 hours on first use, so the top layer of wax fully melts and you get an even burn next time.
  • Keep your candles away from draughty areas, as these will make them burn more quickly.
  • To re-use your candle jar for brushes, pens or even plants, pour warm/hot water in the glass, swirl round and empty. Repeat until clean.

Beautiful bottled scents

Reed diffusers are a great way to add constant fragrance to a room, especially where you can’t keep an eye on a candle, as the reeds simply soak up the fragrance oil and disperse it into the air. Here’s how to get the best out of yours.

  • Place your diffuser near the door so you pick up the scent as you walk in – as people walk past, it helps circulate it around the room too.
  • For an instant hit of scent you can put the diffuser on a covered radiator. Don’t leave it too long though, or the oil will evaporate!
  • To refresh the fragrance flip the reeds every few days. Use 4 or 5 for smaller rooms, and for larger rooms add sticks until you get the right strength.
